Colby and Lawrence drawing lumber to Wadhams Mills
Written on photo: Frank Colby and Leslie Lawrence drawing lumber cut and sawed at Euba Mills enroute to Wadhams Mills – loads of hemlock planks were used to plank the Wadhams Mills Dam.
Note the poles atop of the loads – they were used to tension the chains or ropes holding the load together. Also, notice the horses: shorter and stockier than modern draft breeds, probably some Welsh pony in them.
June of 1899. Wadhams Mills, NY. Photo donated by Leslie Lawrence.
