Built in 1884, Hotel Algonquin was one of the largest hotels in Saranac Lake until the Great Depression when fewer tourists were able to come to Saranac Lake. Eventually falling into disrepair, the once-great hotel was donated to the Trudeau Institute as a laboratory space in 1964. 1904. Saranac Lake, NY. Courtesy of the Saranac Lake Free Library.
