The town of Deferiet was built to house workers of the St. Regis Paper Company in 1901. When Janet Zando, the current mayor and former historian of Deferiet, was born in 1946, the town was still owned by the company. She says living on the island town was like living in a separate world. Listen to Janet’s story here.
