End of Christmas Turkey Day in 1915 in Heuvelton
The end of Christmas “Turkey Day” in 1915. One sees turkey farmers and their wagons headed away from the train tracks, where they would have brought their slaughtered and dressed turkeys to be appraised and purchased by buyers from large cities such as New York, Boston, and Montreal, right before Thanksgiving and Christmas. St. Lawrence County supplied many of the Northeast’s turkeys between the 1890s and 1930s. 1915. Heuvelton, NY.
