Vaudeville actress and film star in Saranac Lake
Saranac Lake’s tourism industry, made possible by the labor of villagers, brought some of the most famous people of the day, including Albert Einstein and Mark Twain. Pictured here is Olga Petrova, (left, in hat), a vaudeville actress, screenwriter and film star. Alongside her film career, Petrova was a champion of women’s rights and an early advocate for equality. The second Saranac Lake high school was named in her honor (The Petroval School), and she attended the dedication. Date unknown. Saranac Lake, NY. Courtesy of the Saranac Lake Free Library.
